PA-MILC Meetings
Our next meeting will be at the home of our current President, Alison Keating in Altoona on Saturday, Oct. 4th. For directions call Alison at 814-946-7061. Potluck lunch will follow the meeting at 10 a.m. The continuing education topic following lunch will be on issues relating to teenage pregnancy and lactation.
There will be a meeting on the 2nd Saturday in January in State College tentatively set for Allen Street Grill.

PA MILC meeting minutes for Saturday, June 3rd, at Panera
Bread in State College
In Attendance: Karen Foard, Kathie Wagner, Stephanie Weaver,
Lillian Fox, Donna Batterson, Kay Hoover, Grace Kellert, Wanda
Mertick, Sharon Kemrer, Kathleen Romberger, Karen Nelson,
Krista Hunter, Helen Vermilya, Cynthia Bartok, Karen Graham
Old Business discussed before lunch included:
Karen Foard resigned as President.
If we disband, our funds approximately $4000, would need
to be turned over to IRS.
Karen Nelson volunteered to remain acting treasurer.
Karen Graham volunteered to remain acting secretary.
All present members agreed that they would like to continue
meeting.
Decide if members would like to change bi-laws at this time
as we have a quorum.
Decide if we would like to change President and Vice President
to co-chairs.
It was decided that we need to redefine goals of the group.
Those present paid 2006 dues of $15.00.

New Business after a great lunch!
We agreed as a group:
To use money in any way to disseminate breastfeeding information
if we would disband rather than turn it over to IRS (more
doctor give aways, donate to Penn State Lactation Center,
or other)
Not to change bi-laws to co-chairs.
Presidents Job –ideas and vision, contact members,
construct agenda (CERP), confirm meeting place, delegate responsibilities
to lighten job
To continue to meet to support each other and have continuing
education offered bi-monthly.
To use Penn State Lactation Center, Noll Lab as a meeting
place in State College.
To work on up-dating website
Web Site coordinator – gather information, check things
sent in from other members or delegate, website store should
be deleted, members need to be updated, next meeting needs
to be added, pass on to Mark

Other information presented by Cynthia Bartok and Kay Hoover
Penn State Lactation Center located in Noll Lab (yet to be
named) will act as an outpatient service provider to breastfeeding
families. Tentative plans are to have breastfeeding problems
observed by a graduate student and dietetic student. Future
plans include setting up a study to encourage exclusive breastfeeding
for 6 months and to see how this relates to childhood obesity.
Center has meeting space, storage space, parking next door
for $4 (red lot A free nights and Saturdays) or free parking
across the street. Asset: Leann Birch co-author of AAP statement
on nutrition.
